The crew was:- Stroke Charlie Capel, James Piercy, Salvatore Nigrelli, James Capel, Alex Hall, Liam Maloney, Elliot Piercy, bow Jack Kirkby, Emma Graham (cox)
Yesterday the boys 1st VIII rowed at Henley Royal Regatta. Having reorganised the crew from early in the year to find extra pace we all felt that we were in with a good chance of progressing through the first day and on into the rest of the Regatta.
We qualified strongly last Friday and then drew Hampton school in the first round and although formidable opponents we did feel, in with a chance. Preparation was excellent and the boys were up for the race.

The first 10 strokes saw us take a slight advantage but then Hampton worked very hard to take a length lead by half way they were 2¼ up and seemingly we could not stay with them. Usually in a two lane knock out race the leader at this point would row away and in years gone by maybe we have let crews have it too easy. This year was to be different instead of capitulating the boys pushed, on and on again, to get back into contact with Hampton but finally ran out of course after 7 minutes of flat out rowing one length behind.
The boys in the boat can be very proud of putting up a performance like this against one of the premier rowing schools in the country.
