Congratulations to the team who became Surrey Champions yesterday.

The girls won their pool after beating SWP 2-0 (Laila Richards, Yassie Chahal), Danes Hill 1-0 (Abbie Strachan), CLFS 5-0 (Bella Rodrigues-Mendes 4, Abbie Strachan) and Tormead 5-0 (Eleanor Graves 2, Maddie Mc Carthy, Abbie Strachan & Yassie Chahal).

The girls played a strong Reigate team in the semi final and were under pressure for much of the game.  Leila Richards scored from a short corner to settle the nerves and win the match to set up another game against Danes Hill to decide the title.

In the finals Danes Hill played some really nice hockey and scored the opening goal.  Maddie Mc Carthy and Bella Rodrigues Mendes pressed hard and were rewarded with an equaliser.    About four minutes from time Laila Richards scored to put SGC 2-1 up.  It was a closely contested game but Laila’s goal proved to be the winner.  

This achievement is made even more amazing with the U12A boys hockey team also winning to become Surrey Champions, the first time both teams have won this title at the same time.
