Today we hosted our annual Science, Maths and Technology Fair for 60 children from local junior schools. The event gave local children the opportunity to use the School’s exceptional facilities and understand how science subjects are taught at secondary school. Schools attending were Cranmere Primary School, St Cuthbert’s School, St Ignatius School, The Marist, School, Twickenham Prep School, Sacred Heart Primary School, Cardinal Newman Catholic Primary School, St Charles Borromeo Catholic School, Pyrford Primary School, Goldsworth Park Primary, and St Judes School.
Activities consisted of five mini-workshops to introduce the children to chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics and technology (including Food). Each supervised session encouraged a ‘hands-on’ approach with fun experiments to stimulate the childrens’ imaginations.
Keith Taggart, Head of Physics at St George’s College and organiser of the annual event commented: “This event is a great opportunity for local junior school children to understand how these subjects are taught at senior school; showing them that learning can be interactive and enjoyable.”
