Remembrance Day

The College held an outdoor service for the whole School whilst the Junior School held their service in the Junior School Chapel.

The community at St George's has services of remembrance in order to take time out of normal school life to remember, commemorate and honour all those who have died in conflict.

During the services the last post was played and poppy wreaths were laid on the school memorials at the College and around the alter at the Junior School.

The memorials at the College are from the 1st and 2nd World Wars and are in memory of Old Georgians who died in those wars. In the services the schools remembered service personnel from all the conflicts and peacekeeping missions in which people from the UK have been involved and they remembered those currently on active service.

School Chaplain Fr Martin Ashcroft said "At St George's College we use Armistice Day as our day of Remembrance. Today the entire school community at St George's College came together at 11.00am at the same time as others throughout the country to pray for those who have died in battle and to reflect on the high price being paid for world peace and freedom which continues to cost so many lives in conflict and war even today."
