On December 14th the Amanda Smith theatre was the noisy venue for the First Year's Spelling Bee (a competition where students are asked to spell English words). With enormous support from all the tutor groups, the winners of the early rounds from each class had to stand up to the microphone and spell some very tricky words. It eventually came down to Shane Thomas spelling it out with JJ Spunner. Tense was not the word but finally Shane made an error and JJ spelt it correctly to win. All the finalists had prizes, the top three had signed copies of a thrilling book and JJ went home with the trophy.
