Students and Staff at St George’s are supporting people living in poverty in Africa in very practical ways. As well as supporting nine schools in the Democratic Republic of Congo and WaterAid which is an international non-profit organisation dedicated to helping people escape the poverty and disease caused by living without safe water and sanitation in Africa, every Friday students run a Fairtrade stall at Friday morning break times. Fairtrade encourages students, parents and staff to make a positive option to change today for the lives of millions and farmers in developing countries by purchasing Fairtrade products. The College’s Fairtrade stall is a non-profit making activity with all money going back to Fairtrade suppliers.
Fr Martin, the School Chaplain said “I am delighted that we are able to support the work of Fairtrade here at the College. Not only are their products outstanding in quality and taste but all those who produce Fairtrade products are paid an ethical living wage which is helping to alleviate poverty in Africa’.
