Mr Harold, Curriculum Leader of Humanities with students
Pupils from St. George's College Junior School have been learning about the local history of Weybridge by taking part in 'The Elmbridge Museum Trail'. The trail starts in the Junior School library and ends at Elmbridge Museum. The pupils use their geographical skills too by following a map around important historical sites in Weybridge, including one of Henry V111's lesser-known palaces.
Mr Harold, Curriculum Leader of Humanities, at St. George's College Junior School commented:
'Oatlands Palace is very special to our pupils, as the Junior School was built on the grounds of Henry V111's palace. Here at St. George's, we endeavour to inspire the pupils, trigger their imaginations and foster a spirit of enquiry. Local history enables children to make that connection with the past.'
The trail is one of a series of historical events taking place at St. George's. Following on from this, pupils are taking part in a Tudor Tile Workshop with Petra Cox from Elmbridge Museum. Here the pupils are working with tiles excavated from the 'Oatlands Palace Archaeological Site'.
