Eggs delivered at St.George’s!
How do you like your eggs in the morning? Scrambled, cooked, fertilized, poached, over easy, sunny side up etc...Well these are eggs with a difference! Being kept in the incubator we will try and hatch them throughout the week and into the next completing the project on Monday 14th March.
Please be still!
It is important the eggs remain completely still for last 3 days of hatching as the chicks are actually breathing from the air sac at the blunt end of the egg and will suffocate if bumped or rotated too much.
Hygiene
All eggs are fumigated and sanitized prior to delivery, if any children have allergies to eggs please alert members of staff so plans can be made to safeguard susceptible students.
Special points of interest:
The Incubator needs to be kept at 37.5 degrees celcius
Sexing the chicks: white = male, brown = female!
Chicks need to be kept under lights for about 6-8 weeks until their feathers are fully developed
Incubation takes 21 days but the heart starts beating at Day 2!
Which came first? Chicken or the Egg?
The chicken as eggs don’t have legs? Answers in an email please!
