St George's College Junior School Weather Station

Pupils of St. George’s College Junior School will be observing changes in the weather very closely in 2010, courtesy of the St. George’s Parent’s Society who have very kindly donated a Weather Station to the school. The weather station has been mounted on the roof of the school and sends data, which is logged and transmitted LIVE to every computer in the Junior School. All the data is extracted and recorded onto an excel spreadsheet for class use.

Mr Harold, Curriculum Leader for Humanities, commented,

‘This is a very exciting development for St George’s College Junior School as we start 2010.
Weather and climate change are key issues for all of us. Our pupils here have an opportunity of understanding weather in more detail by observing and recording weather, leading to the recognition of patterns in our weather system.’

St George’s College Junior School now has the option of becoming one of over 800 local official amateur weather stations in Britain providing data for an alternative more localised weather forecast. The school are also looking to be linked to an international weather project, ‘Metlink International’ which records weather information around the world.
