Year 1 at St George’s College Junior School celebrated World Book Day with the book “The World Came to My Place Today” by Jo Readman and Ley Honor Roberts.
Mrs Angela Disher, the Junior School Librarian, read them the story which is about George who drinks orange juice from Spain, eats rice from China and sets sail for Africa in search for chocolate! This book was inspired by the Eden Project in Cornwall. As it was being read the children located where the foods came from on a world map which is now in the Library for all to see.
After the story every child in Year 1 made a “Face Pizza” using the foods mentioned in the book.
“The Children really enjoyed World Book Day and were amazed to discover how plants from all over the world affect their daily lives. It is a very enjoyable book as it covers both fiction and non-fiction which is part of the curriculum in Year 1” said Mrs Disher.
