Youth Speaks success yet again!

Our Senior team, consisting of Jamie Banurji, Inge Hertzog and Amica Nowlan from last year's Lower Sixth spoke on "Africa's Poison" to win first place against strong competition

St George's were delighted to enter three teams this year into the Youth Speaks Competition and all were excellent. The competition took place in the Council Chamber at Runnymede in Addlestone which was a great experience with the Mayor of Runnymede and members of the Chertsey Rotary club, who sponsor the competition presiding.

Our Senior team, consisting  of Jamie Banurji, Inge Hertzog and Amica Nowlan from last year's Lower Sixth spoke on "Africa's Poison" to win first place against strong competition from local schools including Sir William Perkins. They were presented with a cheque for £100 for the Sixth Form from the Mayor and certificates for the bedroom wall!

It was the icing on the cake when our Intermediate team members - Cameron Henderson Begg, Charlie Elding and Hannah Bramwell from the Fourth Year were also  winners of their section. They took the controversial topic  speaking on "Political Correctness" and were also presented with a £100 cheque for the College Council. Cups were presented as we won the Senior Competition last year too.

It must be added that our Junior team of Pierre Carnet, Melissa Dron and Jayden Clark did very well indeed but were just pipped at the post by another school.

All three teams worked together well and the Heads of Year, Mrs Barnett, Miss Maguire and Mrs Lamey (who co-ordinated the competition on behalf of St George's) were very proud of their efforts.
