A Level Academic Results 2010

A level results

The first year of the new A* grades for A Level students saw a total of 33 A* grades overall for St George’s College students with six boys and girls achieving three A* grades.  Emma Graham (Weybridge), one of this group has already distinguished herself as our rowing eight cox at Henley Royal Regatta and will be studying Biology at Durham University.  Another outstanding student who exceeded all expectations is Huw Batts (Pyrford), who is overwhelmed at his hard won success at gaining three A* grades.

The Captains of School were a winning combination too with Head Girl, Inge Hertzog (Weybridge) getting three A grades and gaining her place at St Catherine’s College, Oxford to read Geography, Deputy Head Girl Lydia Burton (Egham) achieved one A* and two A grades and will be reading English at Robinson College, Cambridge. Ben Scott Head Boy (Ottershaw) having gained an A* in Physics and the rest straight A grades enabling him to read Natural Science at Bath University, whilst his Deputy Jamie Banurji (Weybridge) got an A* in Maths and three straight A grades and is taking up a degree course at Warwick University in Economics.  Jamie will be joining his older brother Ben (an Old Georgian) who is already studying at Warwick.

Jack Kirkby (Weybridge), another member of the rowing eight also achieved straight A*’s in three subjects and will be going to St Ann’s College, Oxford to take up Material Science and Economics.  Daniel Fisher (Weybridge) is the last of a quartet, who will be following his grandfather’s footsteps to enter Christ’s College and studying Engineering.  In complete contrast, Alex Orchard (Woking) has been successful in the highly competitive field of Dentistry and having gained a prestigious A* in Biology will be studying at Leeds.

Some students have planned exciting gap years before they continue to their chosen universities.  Alice Goring (Weybridge), a prospective vet is taking a challenging gap year doing eventing with her horse before she takes up her academic studies and was delighted with her A* grade in Maths accompanying her A grades in Biology and Chemistry. Amica Nowlan (Addlestone) has planned well for her gap year, which is beginning with an internship with NGO called Initiative of Change in Geneva before she goes further afield to Namibia on voluntary work and she is thrilled with her A* in Maths and three straight A Grades.  She gained her French A Level last year along with a merit in her AEA award.

One student Andrea Valentino achieved five A levels and is delighted to have achieved two A*’s in History and English Literature alongside his other three A Levels – he is also off on his travels abroad during his gap year.

The College also announced its AS Level results which were very good and bode well for next year’s A Level results.  Out of ten Lower Sixth students who took Maths A Level a year early, four gained a grade A*, five gained an A grade and one gained a C grade.  Two Lower Sixth students achieved a grade A* and a grade B in their A Level French, one of whom Jess Manning also gained A* in her A Level Maths.

Headmaster, Joe Peake, was delighted by the results and the Colleges performance in their first year with the A* grades, “The results of the boys and girls at St George’s have clearly shown the enormous achievements which can be obtained in working together in an academic co-educational environment.”

Margi Lamey, Head of Sixth Form at St George’s College, said: “This year’s cohort has worked hard during this difficult climate and the boys and girls can be proud of their efforts.  The students have excelled in their efforts on charity fundraising this year with £5000 being raised for our Josephite school in the Congo as well as the hard work they have put in to their A Levels”
