The Future Foundation has been established by the Board of Governors because we need to continue to invest in our Schools so that we can improve the facilities still further creating the high standard of facilities you would expect. We need to invest so that our teachers are able to work in an environment fitting for the demands we place upon them. We also need to fully fulfil our role as a Christian and caring institution, involving outreach to our wider community.
The major projects identified will be financed from the reserves we have been slowly saving with perhaps some prudent borrowing. However, if we want to move on quickly and ensure current students benefit from these necessary projects it will mean finding the funding sooner.
In the future we want to establish a St George's Assisted Places Scheme which would enable us to create a number of places in the Schools each year which will be allocated to children of the requisite academic standards but whose parents are not in a position to pay our fees. Children could be offered the places but as the Schools are full in most year groups, it would mean a drop in fee income and therefore reduction in the funds becoming available for reinvestment each year. We would like to build up a capital fund using the interest to pay the fees of those students receiving assistance, which would be fitting for a Catholic School to provide.
Estimated endowment fund: £250,000 to fund each student.
We would like to provide a new block to house the Sixth Form and an adjoining Humanities Centre. In the Sixth Form Centre there will be classrooms for the delivery of all those subjects which are specific to the Sixth Form. The old Woburn Block, which was the Junior School when it was on the same site, will be demolished to make space for the new buildings. The current Sixth Form Centre is too small for the numbers we want in the Sixth Form and we need a strong A Level cohort to enable the whole school to flourish. The opportunity of studying A Levels at St George's should be one that none of our students would want to miss. We have architects drawings of the proposed building that will complement Southcote House, the staff accommodation.
When: Architects drawings completed, currently in the planning process (Apr 2007)
Estimated costs: £5.5m
The swimming pool project will entail the complete renovation of the current Junior School pool to provide a modern indoor 25 metre competition facility with associated swimming and other games changing areas. The facility will be available to all St George's students and families.
When: Architects drawings completed
Estimated costs: £1.3m
